The President signed Federal Law On Ratifying the Protocol Between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Amending the Agreement Between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Rent for the Sary-Shagan Testing Range of October 18, 1996.
The Protocol was signed in Moscow on April 16, 2015.
The Protocol amends the Agreement with regard to conditions and procedures for calculating rent payments for the use of the testing range.
According to the Agreement, on January 1, 2016, the amount of rent paid yearly by Russia to Kazakhstan for the use of the testing range will decrease from $18.932 million to $16.276 million, due to the reduction in the testing range’s territory through the transfer to the Kazakhstani side of individual tracts of land not used by Russia’s Defence Ministry, which are suitable for seasonal agricultural and geological prospecting work without detriment to the use of the testing range for its intended purpose.
