October 12, 2022

The CICA summit, to be held on October 13, will focus on regional cooperation in Asia in the economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as on security. The participants will consider possible directions for the further development of this forum. A number of joint documents are to be adopted following the summit.

At the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on October 14, the leaders will exchange views on key issues of interaction within the Commonwealth. They will pay particular attention to improving the performance of the organisation, its executive departments and sectoral bodies. A large package of documents has been prepared for signing, including a programme of cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, an agreement on combating corruption, and decisions on the Commonwealth obtaining observer status in the CSTO, on launching the CIS Human Rights Commission, and on creating an international organisation to support and promote the Russian language.

In the afternoon of October 14, the first Russia-Central Asia summit will take place. The agenda includes opportunities for interaction between Russia and the five Central Asian states in various fields. The participants will also pay attention to regional security, taking into account, in particular, developments in Afghanistan. A Joint Statement will be adopted following the summit.

The President of Russia will also hold a number of separate meetings with the heads of state participating in the events in Astana.
