Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos on Extradition, signed in St Petersburg on May 28, 2015.
Under the Treaty’s provisions, the two countries undertake on a reciprocal basis and in respect of the conditions set out in the Treaty to extradite upon request of either party individuals on the other party’s territory wanted for criminal prosecution or to carry out a sentence in the requesting party for crimes resulting in the extradition. The Treaty defines crimes resulting in extradition as acts that under the law in both parties are liable for criminal penalties and can be punished by a term of imprisonment of at least one year or a severer penalty.
The Treaty does not concern matters regulated by the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union and does not contradict Russia’s other international legal agreements.
