November 12, 2016

Vladimir Putin sent to the State Duma for ratification the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Cases.

The Agreement was signed in St Petersburg on May 28, 2015 in the aim of developing the international legal framework for cooperation between Russia and Sri Lanka on providing mutual legal assistance in criminal cases.

The two parties undertake to provide to each other, on a reciprocal basis and in accordance with the Agreement, legal assistance in investigation, court proceedings and other procedural action related to criminal cases. The Agreement sets out the extent of legal assistance the parties undertake to provide, and sets out requirements for the form and content of requests for legal assistance and the procedures for implementing requests.

The Agreement does not affect matters regulated by the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union and does not contradict any of the Russian Federation’s international agreements.
