Working visit by Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin to Latvia

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation Sergei Naryshkin made a working visit to Latvia.

Sergei Naryshkin was received by President of Latvia Andris Berzins in his official Riga Castle residence. During the talks, the politicians discussed the current state of and prospects for Russian-Latvian cooperation development and confirmed mutual interest in strengthening the positive trends in the bilateral relations.

Much attention was given to the process of improving the contractual and legal relationships in the context of the entry into force of documents signed in December 2010 during the President of Latvia’s visit to Russia.

At his meeting with Andris Berzins, Sergei Naryshkin stressed the need to improve the situation in the humanitarian sphere and drew attention to the problem of large-scale statelessness in Latvia, as well as the rights and interests of Russians abroad.

During the visit, Mr Naryshkin presented the Order of Friendship to singer Laima Vaikule and chairman of the steering committee of the New Wave young pop singers contest Alexander Shenkman.

Sergei Naryshkin and Mayor of Riga Nils Usakovs laid flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers who liberated Riga from Nazi occupants.
