March 2, 2012

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Latvian Republic on Simplifying Mutual Visits by Residents of Border Territories in the Russian Federation and Latvian Republic.

The Agreement was signed in Moscow on December 20, 2010.

The Agreement stipulates establishing on a mutual basis favourable conditions for residents of border territories to enter and stay in Russia and Latvia.

The key element of the Agreement is the provision that mutual visits by residents of border territories in Russia and Latvia will be allowed upon presentation of valid travel documents and permissions for local cross-border travels issued by the two states’ consular authorities under simplified procedures applicable to persons on the lists of residents of the said territories to be compiled by local authorities.
