Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to President of the Republic of Namibia Hifikepunye Pohamba

August 20, 2012

The telegram reads, in part:

“The Republic of Namibia is one of our key partners on the African continent and we value our friendly relations.

Our bilateral political dialogue is trust-based and rests on the fundamental closeness of our approaches to key issues in global and regional politics. This allows us to effectively coordinate our actions on the international arena, including in the UN.

The strategic direction of our joint work in trade and investment was noted during the Russian-Namibian summit meetings in 2009 and 2010. I warmly recall my conversation with you in Moscow in May 2010.

We see great potential for further developing our economic ties.

We also have encouraging prospects in hydropower industry, fishing, agriculture, education and tourism.

I am certain that through our joint efforts, we can ensure the dynamic development of a multifaceted, mutually beneficial partnership for the good of our peoples and in the interest of regional stability and security.”
