Congratulatory message to President of Peru Ollanta Humala Tasso

July 29, 2011

Dmitry Medvedev sent a message to President of the Republic of Peru Ollanta Humala Tasso, congratulating him on assuming presidential office, as well as on Peru’s national holiday, the Independence Day.

The message reads, in part:

“Our states are joined by long-standing traditions of friendship and mutual understanding. I note with satisfaction that the Russian-Peruvian relations today have great potential for comprehensive development through exciting and important new initiatives. We are ready for systematic deepening of the political dialogue between our states and strengthening trade and economic ties.

The most promising areas include development of energy and transport infrastructure, fishery and mining industries and defence cooperation. We see great opportunities for enhancing inter-regional contacts. I am confident that through focused joint efforts we can ensure the implementation of large and mutually beneficial projects in the near future.

The coordination of our positions on key international issues is carried out effectively at such venues as the UN and APEC, and through multilateral regional organisations such as OAS, the Rio Group, the Andean Community and the Union of South American Nations.

I hope that fruitful Russian-Peruvian cooperation will continue to expand in the future.”

The message also contains an invitation to the President of Peru to make an official visit to Russia. Dmitry Medvedev suggested that the visit’s dates be agreed through diplomatic channels.
