Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas on the Palestinian side’s initiative.
Particular attention was given to the situation in and surrounding the Gaza Strip. The President of Palestine spoke highly of Russia’s active role in the international efforts to cease hostilities, establishing a humanitarian ceasefire and seeking long-term political settlement.
Mahmoud Abbas briefed Vladimir Putin on the talks taking place in Cairo, under Egyptian mediation, between the united Palestinian delegation and Israeli representatives. Mr Abbas welcomed the coordination and cooperation between Russia and Egypt as an important factor in strengthening peace and stability in the Middle East.
