At Qatar’s initiative, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The two leaders continued their exchange of views on various aspects of the Syrian crisis. The Emir of Qatar assessed very positively Russia’s efforts to normalise the situation in Syria, following on from Mr Putin’s decision on March 14, 2016, to withdraw the bulk of Russia’s forces from the country.
The two leaders stressed that it is essential for all parties to the Syrian conflict to respect the ceasefire as the main condition for launching a comprehensive political settlement process under UN aegis.
The two leaders agreed to continue their close work together on the Syrian issue, including the humanitarian dimension, and in this objective, planned bilateral contacts at various levels.
