Message to King Mohammed VI of Morocco

March 9, 2012

Dmitry Medvedev sent a message to King Mohammed VI of Morocco that reads, in part:

“We give special significance to broadening Russian-Moroccan cooperation. I am satisfied to note that a productive political dialogue has been established between our nations, our trade is growing, and contacts between business communities are increasing.

The Intergovernmental Commission plays a significant role in fostering mutually beneficial business ties. I think we should jointly promote the intensification of its work, engaging in major joint projects in energy, irrigation and water engineering, deep-sea fishing and the high-tech sector. It is also very important to intensify efforts to broaden the framework of laws and contracts regulating of our relations.

I am glad that Russia and Morocco are coordinating efforts in the international arena, including promoting stability and security in the region. From the very start of the so-called Arab Spring, we have supported the ambition of Middle Eastern and North African peoples to bring about socioeconomic modernisation – without external pressure and on the basis of strict compliance with state sovereignty.

This essential position serves as the foundation for our approaches to settling the situation in and around Syria. We are against foreign interference into Syria’s internal affairs, particularly if it involves force, regardless of the pretence. We continue to call for an end to the violence in that country by all parties involved in the conflict. We believe the only way out of this crisis is through peace, and that the situation requires broad national dialogue without preconditions.”

The message was delivered by the Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov during his visit to Rabat.
