Law on ratification of agreement between Russia and Tajikistan on cooperating to dispose of products and waste from solid rocket propellant

July 13, 2012

Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on Cooperation in Safe Disposal of Products and Waste from Solid Rocket Propellant Containing Beryllium.

The law stipulates implementing in the Republic of Tajikistan the disposal of products and waste materials containing highly toxic substances and posing a significant environmental danger, as well as eliminating technical documentation at the Zarya Vostoka Plant state unitary enterprise pertaining to technologies for manufacturing solid rocket fuel charges falling within the scope of international obligations to observe a verification regime for rocket technologies, so as to make impossible its transfer to third countries.

The implementation of the Agreement is in the Russian Federation’s interests. Disposal methods that will be developed in the process of fulfilling the Agreement can be used in Russian manufacturing in the future to carry out work on the safe and environmentally clean disposal of a wide range of composite solid propellant charges in the Russian Federation without the use of expensive equipment that is currently employed in disposing of this type of propellant.
