Vladimir Putin sent a message of congratulations to President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on National Unity Day and the 20th anniversary of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan.
The message reads, in part:
“The signing of the General Agreement was a signal event in the history of Tajikistan. It put an end to many years of civil war, facilitated the achievement of national unity and paved the way towards a peaceful and prosperous future. At that time, Russia supported the efforts of the Tajikistani leaders and people to bring about a peaceful settlement and also to ensure security on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border.
I am confident that strategic Russian-Tajikistani partnership, which is based on traditions of friendship and mutual assistance, will continue to develop to the benefit of our nations.”
