Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The two presidents discussed the situation in the Middle East, that has deteriorated, placing particular emphasis on the public protests in the Palestinian territories against the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem. Serious concern was expressed about the deaths of a large number of participants in these protests.
The Russian side underlined the importance of refraining from violence and the need to launch an effective negotiating process to find mutually acceptable solutions based on relevant UN decisions.
The two leaders continued the exchange of views on the Syrian peace process, with due account of the results of the ninth international meeting on Syria in Astana, which ended on May 15.
Aspects of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector were also touched upon.
