Telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan

February 4, 2020

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Turkish side’s initiative.

Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan held an in-depth discussion on the developments in Syria and expressed mutual concern over growing tension in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Vladimir Putin noted a sharp increase in terrorist activities, saying that attacks have claimed numerous civilian lives.

It was pointed out that the Russian-Turkish agreements on Idlib, which provide for redoubling mutual efforts to neutralise the extremists, must be strictly complied with.

The sides agreed to take emergency measures, primarily at the level of the defence ministries of Russia and Turkey, to further strengthen the coordination of activities in Syria.

They also confirmed their support for the intra-Syrian dialogue within the framework of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva.

While exchanging views on a settlement in Libya, the presidents emphasised the importance of complying with the ceasefire, which began on January 12, 2020, as well as implementing the decisions adopted at the international conference in Berlin on January 19.
