February 24, 2023

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed deep appreciation for Russia’s assistance in mitigating the consequences of the destructive earthquake in Turkiye. Mr Erdogan highlighted the high professionalism of Russia’s rescuers and medics. In turn, Vladimir Putin confirmed his readiness to continue rendering the necessary assistance to Turkiye in the restoration effort in the region affected by the natural disaster.

The leaders also discussed issues of Russian-Turkish cooperation including energy projects. They also had a substantive discussion of the practical aspects of further Russian energy resource exports and construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

There was an exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine in the context of the principled assessments expressed by the President of Russia in his recent address to the Federal Assembly. The parties focused on the implementation of the Istanbul agreements on the export of Ukrainian wheat and Russian agricultural products and fertilizers. The necessity of implementing the second part of the package in good faith, on removing the obstacles to the shipping of these items from Russia to the neediest countries, was highlighted.

The leaders agreed to continue their personal contacts.
