Dmitry Medvedev sent a message of congratulations to President of the United Republic of Tanzania Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on the 50th anniversary of Tanzania’s independence.
The message said, in particular:
“Your country has made confident progress in its state-building efforts and development over these years, successfully resolving major social and economic tasks.
Tanzania today is one of Russia’s key partners in Africa. Our relations are based on mutual respect and trust and the desire to strengthen our ties in a broad range of fields. In particular, I note the big potential for cooperation in areas such as exploration and mining operations. We are ready to continue working together to put the opportunities for mutually advantageous cooperation between our countries to effective use.
We also place much importance on building up our cooperation on the international stage. Tanzania is an influential member of the African Union and plays a big part in ensuring security in the region and on the African continent in general.
I am sure that deeper ties between our two countries at the bilateral level and on international issues are in the interests of our peoples and will serve the cause of progress and stability in Africa.”
