Greetings to Odessa residents on the 70th anniversary of liberation from Nazi occupation

April 10, 2014

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greeting to Odessa residents and Great Patriotic War veterans on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Odessa from the Nazi occupation.

In his message of greeting, the President notes that representatives of various ethnic groups fought side by side to liberate Odessa and Southern Ukraine. The heroism of soviet officers and men, members of the underground movement and home front workers will always serve as an example of selfless courage and valour.

The President of Russia expressed his conviction that centuries-old traditions of good neighbourliness and mutual support will continue to unite Russians and Ukrainians. He stressed that their common duty is to cherish the memory of the past war, to thwart any attempt to rewrite history and to bring up the younger generation on the high ideals of patriotism and pride for our Great Victory.

Vladimir Putin expressed his deep gratitude to Great Patriotic War veterans and wished them a long and healthy life. He also wished peace and prosperity to all citizens of Ukraine.
