Vladimir Putin congratulated Metropolitan Onufri of Chernovtsy and Bukovina on being elected Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The message reads, in part:
“I am convinced that in these difficult times for Ukraine your activities as a spiritual leader will help to bring reconciliation and mutual understanding among people and to restore accord and stability in society.
Please accept my wishes of health, wellbeing and heavenly guidance. I wish you success in your demanding and responsible arch-pastorship in the name of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the integrity of the Russian Orthodox Church”.
