January 25, 2011

Dmitry Medvedev had a telephone conversation with President of the United States Barack Obama.

The President of the United States expressed solidarity with the people of the Russian Federation following the tragic terrorist attack at Domodedovo Airport, as well as deep condolences regarding the deaths of innocent individuals. He wished all the people injured by this inhumane terrorist act a speedy recovery. Barack Obama announced his readiness to offer all necessary assistance to ensure that those responsible for this atrocity are justly punished.

The President of Russia expressed his gratitude for the sympathy and support and emphasised the particular significance of the broad solidarity shown by the international community during such difficult times.

Both leaders stated intention to engage in close cooperation to eradicate terrorism, which threatens the entire civilised world, and stressed that given this context, it is particularly important to cooperate in the interests of strengthening international stability and security.

In this regard, the US President expressed sincere satisfaction that the new START Treaty was ratified by the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, becoming one of the most important achievements in Russian-American partnership in recent time.

The conversation was initiated by the US side.
