Telephone conversation with President of the United States Barack Obama

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the United States Barack Obama.

The President of the United States congratulated Vladimir Putin on officially taking office as President.

Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama congratulated each other on the anniversary of the Victory over Nazism, noting the historical significance of the allied relations binding their nations during World War II, and expressed their warmest wishes to veterans.

During their constructive conversation, the Presidents discussed prospects for expanding Russian-American relations and personal contacts.

The Russian President informed his American counterpart that he will not be able to attend the upcoming G8 summit due to the necessity to form a new Government. Russia’s new Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will represent Russia at the summit to be held in Camp David, Maryland, USA, on May 18–19, 2012.

Both presidents agreed to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Mexico to be held on June 18–19, 2012.
