Telephone conversation with President of the United States of America Barack Obama

July 18, 2012

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with US President Barack Obama on the American side’s initiative.

The President of the United States expressed his condolences following the devastating floods in the Krasnodar Territory, which resulted in the loss of many lives.

Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama reviewed in detail the situation in Syria in the context of current discussions within the UN Security Council on draft resolutions for settling the conflict, noting a trend toward exacerbation.

Overall, the exchange of views demonstrated the two nations’ concurrence on the overall assessment of the situation in Syria and the ultimate goal of settlement. Nevertheless, differences in opinion remain regarding concrete measures for achieving this settlement.

The Presidents of Russia and the United States agreed to maintain a close dialogue on this issue.
