The President signed Federal Law On Suspending the Russian Federation’s Compliance with the Treaty Between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the Elimination of Their Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (the INF Treaty).
Under the law, Russia suspends its compliance with the INF Treaty signed between the Soviet Union and the United States in Washington, DC on December 8, 1987.
The decision to suspend compliance with the INF Treaty was taken due to the deliberate non-compliance by the United States with its obligations under the Treaty and its intention to withdraw from it.
The law stipulates that any decision to resume the Russian Federation’s compliance with the INF Treaty shall be taken by the President of Russia.
