The President issued instructions to render assistance to Vietnam hit by typhoon

Vladimir Putin instructed the Government to render humanitarian assistance to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and provide financial assistance in the amount of $5 million.

The President discussed the situation in Vietnam with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov and Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

Vladimir Putin instructed the Government to carry out humanitarian operations. Vladimir Puchkov reported that an Il-76 aircraft is preparing to leave for Vietnam with humanitarian aid. The President also issued instructions to provide financial assistance to Vietnam in the amount of $5 million.

The Russian leader expressed hope that other countries planning to attend the APEC CEO Summit in Vietnam would also show solidarity with the people of Vietnam.

Typhoon Damrey which battered central Vietnam was the most devastating natural disaster in two decades, leaving more than 60 dead, dozens missing, and damaging about 80,000 buildings. More than 40,000 people were evacuated.
