Dmitry Medvedev sent a message to Leonid Tibilov congratulating him on being elected President of the Republic of South Ossetia.
The message reads, in part:
“During the democratic election, the citizens of South Ossetia showed a high level of confidence in you and have expressed support for the policy for the republic’s development as an independent, sovereign state and a worthy member of the international community. Your crucial mission will be to further strengthen the legal foundations of South Ossetia’s statehood, to improve the institutions of state authority and civil society, and to promote the country’s interests in the international arena.
I am confident that under your leadership South Ossetia will continue to make progress in addressing important social and economic challenges and ensuring stability. The republic can always count on continued support of the Russian Federation in furthering these efforts.
We are ready to continue building productive cooperation based on the traditions of friendship and good neighbourly relations between our nations.”
