Vladimir Putin will make a working visit to South Africa

March 19, 2013

The President of Russia will make a working visit to South Africa on March 26, 2013. His visit is taking place at the invitation of South African President Jacob Zuma.

It is expected that topics discussed will include the development of cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian fields, as well as the implementation of projects in various sectors, including energy.

Several bilateral documents are scheduled to be signed following the visit.

On March 26–27, Vladimir Putin will attend the fifth BRICS summit, in Durban, South Africa.

The first summit in this format took place at Russian initiative in Yekaterinburg in 2009.

At this meeting the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will discuss crucial issues for the global economy, international and regional security, and ways to reform the global governance system. Special attention will be paid to opportunities for increasing economic cooperation between BRICS partners.

BRICS leaders will meet with heads of the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), sub-regional integration associations active in the continent.

The BRICS Business Council will be launched during this summit. The idea for this Council was formulated by Russia during a meeting between BRICS leaders in Sanya, China, in 2011.
