Vladimir Putin had brief meetings with a number of foreign leaders

November 11, 2014, Beijing

On the sidelines of the APEC Summit, the President of Russia had brief conversations with President of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang, President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbot and President of the United States Barack Obama.

The conversations with the Presidents of Indonesia and Vietnam focussed mainly on bilateral cooperation. In addition, the implementation of earlier agreements was also touched upon in the conversation with the Vietnamese leader.

The main topic discussed by Vladimir Putin and Tony Abbot was the Malaysian airliner crash. The two leaders spoke out for an accelerated investigation into the causes of the tragedy. They noted that it was inadmissible to deny experts access to the crash site. Both the Russian President and the Australian Prime Minister spoke out for stepping up the investigation, while Mr Putin stressed that Russia has been demanding an unbiased, quick and efficient investigation from the start.

The Presidents of Russia and the United States had a brief discussion of bilateral relations and the situations in Ukraine, Syria and Iran.

All the meetings took place during breaks between official APEC Summit events.
