Dmitry Medvedev visited several municipal infrastructure facilities under construction in preparation for 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics

January 5, 2011, Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi

While reviewing the preparations for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, the President visited a new hospital, which is being built in line with IOC recommendations, and the city airport, which has commissioned its second runway.

The new hospital in Krasnaya Polyana, which is to open in late January, will provide comprehensive medical care to up to 150 patients and will feature an outpatient clinic that will be able to treat up to 100 patients per day. The hospital will have orthopaedics, traumatology and general surgery departments and an intensive care unit. Since the hospital may be called upon to provide medical care to participants and guests of the  Olympic Games, the construction is being carried out taking into account the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.

In addition, the President visited the Sochi-Adler International Airport, which has commissioned its second runway. Further development plans include the construction of a ramp to accommodate 80 aircraft, which will make it possible to meet the IOC requirement to operate 24 takeoffs and landings per hour.

Later Dmitry Medvedev had a working meeting with Transport Minister Igor Levitin who briefed the President on the organisation of transport infrastructure in Sochi in preparation for the Olympics.
