Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin chaired the third meeting of the working group to prepare the State Council Presidium meeting on the development of transport and energy infrastructure as a basis for the economic growth of the Russian Federation constituent entities in the Caspian region.
The meeting was attended by head of the State Council working group and Acting Governor of the Astrakhan Region Sergei Morozov, Minister for North Caucasus Affairs Sergei Chebotarev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) Yury Tsvetkov, and representatives of federal and regional executive bodies, the Federal Assembly, national public organisations and the expert community.
The agenda focused on the development of the North-South transport corridor and mapping out a cargo transit route from Russia that would be competitive in terms of cost and time input due to taking advantage of its favourable geostrategic position as well as the industrial, agricultural and tourism potential of the Russian Federation constituent entities in the Volga-Caspian region.
The meeting participants underscored the need for comprehensive plans to address the current issues which prevent the development of the economic potential of the Russian Federation constituent entities located in the Volga-Caspian basin.
