Congratulations to former and current Russian railway workers

August 1, 2010

Dmitry Medvedev congratulated former and current railway workers on their professional holiday – Railway Workers’ Day.

The message reads, in part:

“This holiday, established in 1896, was one of Russia’s first professional holidays. Today, it recognises the strategic role this sector plays in our country’s life, and is a mark of our respect for all who work in rail transport.

Now, as we carry out our ambitious economic modernisation and technological development programme, you have big new challenges ahead. They include increasing the volume of rail traffic, upgrading the infrastructure and improving service quality, and optimising the management system.

It is important to attract investment into the sector and expand public-private partnerships in the aim of carrying out science-intensive projects. I am confident that our railway workers can achieve all of these goals.”
