Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Amendments to the Federal Law On Refugees and Article 8 of the Federal Law On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation.
The federal law is aimed at improving Russian migration legislation with regard to the introduction of a new type of Russian passport and visa documents.
Amendments to the Law On Refugees stipulate that an individual recognised as a refugee, as well as his family and dependants will be issued a travel document to enter or exit from Russia, which document will contain an electronic chip with the holder’s biometric data.
As per the amendments to the Law On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation, the residence permit of stateless persons will serve as an identity document and will contain an electronic chip with the holder’s biometric data.
