The President signed a federal law amending the Federal Law On Legal Status of Foreign Nationals in the Russian Federation to simplify the application process for several categories of foreign nationals and stateless persons applying for temporary residence or permanent residency.
The federal law expands the list of categories of foreign nationals and stateless persons who may be granted temporary residence permits regardless of the quota approved by the Russian Government or permanent residency without obtaining a temporary residence permit. In particular, the federal law reduces the processing times for temporary residence applications from six to four months and establishes a new procedure for issuance, renewal as well as the cancellation of permanent residency.
