Russia and ASEAN states confirmed that they are committed to further developing multilateral interaction and cooperation based on the principles of equality, mutual benefits and a shared responsibility for promoting peace, stability, security and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
The declaration provides that regular summits will take place in the future between Russia and ASEAN. In addition, summit participants welcomed the decision by Economic Ministers of ASEAN states to establish a mechanism whereby senior Russian officials and ASEAN will consult on economic issues.
Vladimir Putin and ASEAN leaders also adopted a Comprehensive Action Plan to Develop Cooperation Between the Russian Federation and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2005–2015 and charged the appropriate ministers to oversee its implementation in various areas. They also charged the foreign ministers to periodically look at what progress has been made, taking into account new developments in the world and in the region.
