Adviser to the President and Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev chaired the 40th meeting of the Presidential Executive Office Inter-Agency Working Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development.
The meeting participants approved a draft action plan to implement the decisions of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Egypt on November 7–18, 2022, and to prepare for the 28th session of the Conference, which will take place in the UAE on November 30-December 12, 2023. The plan includes organisational issues, such as drafting proposals on negotiation tracks by federal executive bodies for timely submission to the UNFCCC Secretariat.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education delivered a report on using the results of the pilot project to create carbon testing grounds for the implementation of a vital, innovative project, the Unified National System for Monitoring Climate-Active Substances. Ruslan Edelgeriyev pointed out the importance of launching the practical application of the results obtained in the course of the project.
The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported on the work of the expert group on information and statistics for monitoring the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) at the Inter-Agency Working Group. The fourth issue of the statistical handbook, Sustainable Development Goals in the Russian Federation, was published in 2022 (https://rosstat.gov.ru/sdg/report/document/69771). The list of national SDG indicators has been extended and currently comprises 176 indicators, 112 of which are based on information from Russian regions. A full-scale validation of the UN SDG database is scheduled this year to more clearly evaluate Russia’s representation at the international level.
The meeting participants approved the action plan of the Inter-Agency Working Group for 2023.
