Greetings on opening of 2022 Cities of Labour Glory Forum

July 1, 2022

Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to the participants, organisers and guests of the 2022 Cities of Labour Glory National Forum.

The message reads, in part:

“From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, all our people rose shoulder to shoulder to defend the Motherland. Home front workers made a huge contribution to the Great Victory. A title of honour, City of Labour Glory, was established as a sign of the deepest respect and gratitude for those who in harsh conditions worked at defence and industrial enterprises, on transport and in mines, without regard for their own lives and sparing no effort to provide the front with everything necessary.

The capital of Chuvashia was rightfully awarded this high honour. Factories evacuated to Cheboksary produced ammunition and equipment for marine and aviation vehicles, as well as food and clothing for soldiers. And of course, a special, unforgettable page in our military history is the construction of defensive lines around the country's major industrial centres. Two such lines – Sursky and Kazansky – ran through the territory of Chuvashia. And today, in memory of this truly national feat, a memorial to the Builders of Silent Frontiers is being unveiled here.

I am sure that the erection of this majestic monument will contribute to the preservation of our historical memory and the education of young people in the spirit of patriotism and pride in the military feats and labour achievements of our fathers and grandfathers.”
