Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova chaired the Public Council’s first meeting. More than 100 people took part in the meeting both in person and remotely.
Maria Lvova-Belova presented the strategic development areas of the institution of commissioners for children’s rights and also focused on strengthening cooperation with non-profit organisations. The commissioner believes that collaboration with NPOs will yield solid results.
She informed the meeting participants that there would be several public consultative bodies under the Commissioner, such as the Expert Council and the Coordinating Council, as well as the recently established Parents’ Platform, which includes leading parent associations. In addition to this, there are plans to establish the Federal Children’s Public Council, which will deal with the social integration of children and young adults with disabilities, and the Council of Socially Responsible Businesses.
A new Public Council provision, which is based on the results of a recent poll among its members, was presented at the meeting.
Eight new working groups have been approved according to the main strategic areas of the children’s rights institution’s activities, in particular, on family, parenthood, fatherhood and motherhood; healthcare; education and spiritual upbringing; and children’s sports, tourism and culture. They also include working groups on the strategic programmes Teenagers of Russia, Support throughout Life, Children in the Family and A Child-friendly Country. Each of them will be headed by representatives of specialised agencies.
