Working meeting with President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergei Katyrin

October 18, 2013, Novo-Ogaryovo, Moscow Region

Vladimir Putin discussed with President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of the Russian Federation Sergei Katyrin the need to give small- and medium-sized businesses greater access to public procurement contracts and support for Russian companies now that Russia is a member of the WTO.

Mr Katyrin said that the CCI, together with the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, is discussing measures for ensuring SMEs’ involvement in carrying out public procurement contracts.

The CCI President also said that since Russia joined the WTO, a business centre, Russia in the WTO, was set up at the World Trade Center Moscow, which holds training seminars for companies from the Russian regions. The CCI analyses the issues that Russian producers have encountered since Russia joined the WTO and is committed to defending their interests.

Mr Katyrin briefed the President on the import growth dynamic since Russia’s accession, noting that import growth in some sectors is slowing down. Mr Katyrin said that the CCI is looking at possibilities for coordinating actions within the WTO with its counterparts in the  BRICS countries.
