Vladimir Putin will visit Kyrgyzstan on September 20, 2012 at the invitation of President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev.
The talks will focus on a wide range of issues pertaining to cooperation in politics, defence, the economy and cultural sphere, the prospects for interaction in the multilateral regional integration organisations such as the CIS, CSTO and SCO. A number of Russian-Kyrgyz documents will be signed after the talks.
Russia is Kyrgyzstan’s leading trading partner. Bilateral trade amounted to almost $500 million in 2011. Cooperation in energy, the oil and gas sector, and industry has been expanding actively.
2012 is an anniversary year in Russian-Kyrgyz relations. The two states marked two significant dates: the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (March 20, 1992) and the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance (June 10, 1992).
