Vladimir Putin instructed Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to examine and draft proposals on the establishment of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs.
The Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs would have the following responsibilities:
- implement state policy on interethnic and interfaith relations;
- carry out measures to strengthen the unity of Russia’s multi-ethnic people, ensure interethnic and interfaith harmony, and carry out measures to facilitate the ethno-cultural development of Russia’s peoples;
- develop and implement state and federal targeted programmes in the areas of interethnic and ethno-religious relations;
- carry out state monitoring and supervision in the areas of interethnic and ethno-religious relations.
