Magomedsalam Magomedov took part in the 6th Congress of Russia’s Finno-Ugric Peoples

September 27, 2017, Syktyvkar

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov made a working trip to the Komi Republic and took part in the 6th Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples of the Russian Federation.

In his speech at the congress, Mr Magomedov emphasised that the Finno-Ugric peoples play an important role in consolidating Russian statehood and the unity of multi-ethnic Russia.

Russia’s state ethnic policy pays much attention to the peoples of the Finno-Ugric language family. For instance, in 2016 the Russian Government endorsed a package of measures to promote the ethnic and cultural development of the Finno-Ugric peoples, which includes long-term events carried out by the federal and regional authorities with the participation of research organisations and Finno-Ugric public associations.

Mr Magomedov noted that the members of the Association of Russia’s Finno-Ugric Peoples organise Russia’s largest national festivals and forums. Owing to the association’s support, performing artists and young people take part in international, national and regional events. The association’s representative is a member of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations.

During his working trip to Syktyvkar, Mr Magomedov also visited the Friendship Centre of the Komi Republic and the Finno-Ugric Cultural Centre of the Russian Federation established in line with the President’s instruction.

Also, Mr Magomedov had a working meeting with Head of the Komi Republic Sergei Gaplikov to discuss the implementation of the state ethnic policy, inter-ethnic relations and the region’s socioeconomic development.
