The participants discussed the operations of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations and the goals of the federal ethnic and cultural autonomies in the field of the national ethnic policy.

They noted the increased need for centralised representation of the federal ethnic and cultural autonomies in Moscow, for developing comprehensive methods of state support for these autonomies’ public-focused activities and for creating conditions for learning minority languages in Russia.

Magomedsalam Magomedov said in conclusion that the topics on their agenda were closely monitored by the national authorities and noted considerable progress in the implementation of the President’s instructions on the establishment of a House of the Peoples of Russia and respect for the requirements of civil society institutions during the upcoming amendment of the state ethnic policy programme.

The meeting was attended by the heads of federal ethnic and cultural autonomies of Azerbaijanis, Belarusians, Georgians, Kurds, Lezgins, Poles, Roma and Ukrainians, as well as representatives of the Presidential Executive Office.
