Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov took part in the International Forum and opening ceremony of the Year of Indigenous Languages in Russia.
Magomedsalam Magomedov read out the President's greetings to event participants, organisers and guests.
In his address to the forum, the Deputy Chief of Staff pointed out the support that the Russian Federation has given the UN initiative on holding the World Year of Indigenous Languages. Mr Magomedov emphasized the special attention given by the country’s leadership and the Council for Interethnic Relations to preserving and developing languages of the peoples of Russia and noted the special role of language as an instrument of preserving peoples’ national identity and culture.
During his visit, Magomedsalam Magomedov met with Governor of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra Natalya Komarova. The meeting focused on the implementation in the region of the Strategy for the Russian Federation State Ethnic Policy through to 2025 in the region.
The forum was also attended by Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Nationalities Ildar Gilmutdinov, Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov, President of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North Grigory Ledkov, as well as representatives of the Federation Council, State Duma, federal and regional government authorities, international and Russian scientists and public figures.
