Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov chaired a meeting of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations Presidium.
Opening the meeting, the Deputy Chief of Staff summed up some results of implementing the state ethnic policy in 2022, stressing that the key indicator – assessment by the population of interethnic relations – was generally stable in the country during the year, with 80 percent of respondents viewing it as positive. Most Russians do not have a negative attitude towards persons of other ethnicities (82.8 percent), whereas 87.6 percent did not encounter animosity or violation of their rights or options due to their ethnicity, religion or language.
Magomedsalam Magomedov laid special emphasis in his report on the role of members of the Council for Interethnic Relations, leaders of interethnic and ethnic public association in Russia, which firmly stated their support to and solidarity with the Russian President’s policy.
Magomedsalam Magomedov stressed the importance of the work done by the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs and the House of Peoples of Russia together with ethnic associations which continue to regularly send humanitarian aid to residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, and help displaced persons who had to relocate to other regions of Russia, as well as servicemen and their families.
“Next year the Council and government bodies in alliance with civil society institutions face the task of integrating the new territories into a single ethno-political and ethno-cultural space of the Russian Federation,” he added.
In addition, reports were presented at the Presidium meeting by Deputy Minister of Culture Nadezhda Prepodobnaya on the outcome of the Year of Cultural Heritage of Peoples of Russia, and by Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov on the 2022 results of the State Ethnic Policy and plans for 2023. Commissions under the Council for Interethnic Relations also presented briefs on their performance.
Respective decisions were made following the Presidium meeting.
