Dmitry Medvedev submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was signed on behalf of the Russian Federation on September 24, 2008 in New York.
The purpose of the Convention is to ensure the full and effective participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities in civil, political, economic, social and cultural life of society (social integration), non-discrimination on the basis of disability, the protection of persons with disabilities and their full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as the establishment of effective legal mechanisms to ensure these rights.
