The President attended a Christmas mass at the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in the village of Otradnoye on the outskirts of Voronezh. The service was attended by local parishioners and children from the church orphanage.
After the service, Vladimir Putin extended Christmas greetings to the parishioners. The President also visited the parish house and thanked Archpriest Gennady for restoring the orphanage.
The church in the village of Otradnoye in Voronezh Region is on the cultural heritage list. It was named in honour of the Holy Virgin feast.
The construction of the church began in 1893 and went on for eight years. In 1930, it was shut down and used to store grain. Restoration works began in 1991 and in 2001 the church was blessed again.
