Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian Buddhists on their traditional holiday Sagaalgan.
The message reads, in part:
“The tradition to celebrate the lunar New Year is deeply rooted in history and for centuries it has brought together peoples of the Buddhist faith. A symbol of the revival of man and nature, Sagaalgan brings new hopes and expectations and a striving for harmony and pure thought.
It is gratifying to know that Buddhists carefully preserve their rich spiritual and cultural heritage. Today Buddhist organisations in our country have broad opportunities for developing their religious life.
We continue building new datsans and educational centres. Members of Buddhist communities take part in civic forums and make a significant effort to maintain inter-confessional and inter-ethnic dialogue; they make a noticeable contribution to strengthening family values, patriotism, friendship and mutual understanding between people.”
