The President congratulated Russian Muslims on Eid al-Fitr.
The message reads, in part:
“Marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the festival of breaking of the fast carries special spiritual meaning, the joy of gaining new priceless experience of moral purification and self-improvement. For centuries it has been celebrated not only with prayer but also by extending kindness to those in need of help and care.
I must note that followers of Islam in Russia deeply revere historical, cultural and religious traditions of their fathers and grandfathers, introducing these traditions to younger generations. Russia’s Muslim community is actively involved in the country’s life, makes an invaluable contribution to preserving inter-ethnic peace and civil accord in society and educating young people. And of course, the conscientious humanitarian charitable mission of Muslim spiritual leaders, religious organisations and all the country’s Muslims is most assuredly needed under current conditions of a spreading dangerous disease, for it serves to protect people’s lives and health.”
