Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Muslim community of the Russian Federation on the Uraza Bayram holiday, which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
The message reads, in part:
“This holiday draws the faithful to the spiritual and moral foundations of Islam: the values of justice, humanity and peace, compassion and love for one’s neighbour. Since time immemorial Uraza Bayram celebrates good deeds and help for the needy.
Today the Russian Muslim community is playing an increasingly important role in the strengthening of civil harmony and interfaith cooperation in our society. Its awareness-raising efforts and active involvement in educating the youth of today promote the spread of tolerance and mutual understanding between peoples.”
