Dmitry Medvedev sent his profound condolences to the family of Mufti of Kabardino-Balkaria Anas Pshikhachev and the republic’s entire Muslim community following the Mufti’s murder.
The President noted, in particular, that Mr Pshikhachev “was an exceptional and unquestionably influential religious figure, who openly resisted extremism. This vile act of murder was clearly committed in response to the active stand the Mufti took. We will continue to support the Muslims of Kabardino-Balkaria, and the murderers will be punished”.
Mr Medvedev gave an instruction to provide all possible assistance to the Mufti’s family.
Mr Pshikhachev, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Kabardino-Balkaria, was shot by unidentified assailants outside his own home on December 15, 2010.
