Law on Integration of Lugansk People’s Republic into Russia’s Judicial System

Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law On Establishing Russian Federation Courts in the Lugansk People’s Republic and Introducing Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.

The Federal Law was drafted in pursuance of the Federal Constitutional Law On the Accession of the Lugansk People’s Republic to the Russian Federation and Establishing a New Constituent Entity of the Russian Federation, the Lugansk People’s Republic, and in accordance with the Federal Constitutional Law On the Judicial System of the Russian Federation.

The Federal Law stipulates establishing the Supreme Court, the Court of Arbitration, and 31 city and district courts, and the Lugansk Garrison Military Court in the Lugansk People’s Republic.

The decision regarding the commencement date of the established courts’ operation shall be made by the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

The Federal Law will ensure the administration of justice in the Lugansk People’s Republic and implementation of the local citizens’ constitutional right to access to justice.
